Our Software Developer Apprenticeship is a brand-new programme aimed at those with an interest in writing and implementing software applications. It is a work-based training role, and you will develop the skills needed to build and test simple, high-quality code for software. Over 18 months, you will work towards an industry-recognised qualification at level 4 and a skillset that is needed across sectors!

Duties and responsibilities

Our Software Developer Apprentices will be placed within one of our ICT functional teams (Products Teams and Infrastructure & Shared Services Team), where you will learn from experienced colleagues. You will also spend 20% of your time undertaking a special programme of training offered by Multiverse, our training partner. Key training areas will include:

  • Foundations: Fullstack JavaScript; Algorithmic Problem Solving; Computer Science Theory
  • Designing and optimising user interfaces
  • Back End Development
  • Cloud deployment and maintenance

Essential requirements

Applicants will need (or expect to gain) grade 9–4 (A*-C) at GCSE in Maths and English. No prior work experience is required. We are looking for people who are keen to pursue a career in software engineering and have some knowledge of applications such as Excel. We are also looking for people with strong communication, problem solving and organisational skills.
